Personally, I dislike labels and the way they attempt to reduce something complex and beautiful, into a one dimensional definition.  But I would also add that I am and have always been queer, mostly because I don't see myself as fitting into the binary boxes society prescribes and because I am married to a trans woman. Yes, I am queer and proud of it. I am proud to live in a country where it is safe for me to be out and that my trans wife can be herself and that we can be married as two women.

Labels can be helpful, but only as a place to start. They let the world know something about us, a place to begin.  In counselling we will go beyond labels into the unique fabric of what makes you who you are.

Living with a trans woman and witnessing her journey into herself has taught me something about the struggles that trans people, and others in the queer community face on a daily basis.

Each person's journey is different, but it is my hope that my experience with my partner has given me insight into the struggles and challenges trans people face, and some informed empathy for their circumstances.

If you are a member of the queer community, and feel you need counselling, please know that you are safe with me, and together we can work through whatever challenges you are facing.
